The Co-Curricular Programme
Cokethorpe is well-known for its extensive and highly regarded Co-Curricular programme. Discover what is on offer to our pupils below.
Complementing the academic programme
Like many independent schools, the co-curricular programme at Cokethorpe is designed to supplement and complement the academic programme. Often described as a day school with a boarding school mentality, where Cokethorpe differs is in the sheer breadth of opportunity that is packed into our week.
The extensive range of clubs, societies and activities offered to pupils (35 in the Prep School and over 160 in the Senior School) are accessible as part of the weekly timetable, or during the extended lunch break. Known as AOBs (Any Other Business) in the Senior School and the Activities Programme in the Prep School, these clubs, societies and activities are an integral part of the School’s educational offer.
Drama, Sport, and Music further enhance the pupils’ experience from Reception to Upper Sixth. Read more about the Co-Curricular offer below or read an interview with our Director of Co-Curricular by clicking the button below.
AOBs and Activities
The exceptional breadth of opportunities provided by our Prep Activities and the AOB programme in the Senior School offer our pupils copious
Art
The ability to be visually expressive is an important part of development from the earliest years. At Cokethorpe, pupils are afforded the artistic space to be expressive and interpretative, across multiple mediums, in inspiring spaces and under the guidance of knowledgeable and talented teachers.
Drama
Drama in the Co-Curricular programme is of an exceptional quality. Productions are at least termly across the Prep and Senior Schools and take place in our black box theatre, The Shed, or in the wood-panelled splendour of the Corinthian Room in the Mansion House.
Music
Music at Cokethorpe hits all the right notes, with Music a firm favourite for Prep School pupils, right through to our Sixth Form. There are many opportunities for performance, as well as facilities for composition and recording.
Sport
Sport at Cokethorpe is interwoven with the broader fabric of school life. The pursuit of excellence is always underpinned by the importance of participation, with the exceptional breadth of offer ensuring all pupils can find a sport they enjoy.
Outdoor Education
Cokethorpe’s dedicated Head of Outdoor Education works right across the Prep and Senior Schools, from introducing the Reception Class to Bushcraft to leading the Sixth Form paddlers on the Marathon Kayak Devizes to Westminster race. Outdoor Education offers everything from Climbing, Clay Shooting and Target Sprint, to Sailing, Bushcraft, and the Pre-Prep Adventurers Programme.
